Guild History

The Christamore House Guild (formerly Christamore Aid Society) was founded in 1908 by Martha Stewart Carey. The organization is dedicated to providing volunteer services and financial support for the Christamore Settlement House. It has grown from a small group of young women working with immigrants who settled in the area, to a thriving service organization of more than 300 active and associate members.

The Christamore House Guild is an incorporated, tax-exempt, not-for-profit organization. The Guild provides more than one thousand volunteer service hours per year to the Christamore house and the Gala fundraiser is the largest funding source for the Christamore House annual budget. The Guild members also coordinate a Christmas Family adoption program annually. In 2007 this program, Christmas at Christamore, assisted 146 families at Christmas.  The Guild manages the annual Book and Author Benefit which provides scholarship money and funding for educational programs at the Christamore House.

The financial contribution of the Christamore House Guild is the largest source of private annual support for the Christamore House. Please send us a note to learn more about joining the Guild or supporting this worthwhile organization.
